Lakeview Conference: April 23, 2010
According to NCATE, in a PDS work and practice are inquiry-based and focused on learning.
Practice in the PDS and partnering university is inquiry-based and an inquiry orientation weaves together learning, accountability, and faculty development. Inquiry is used routinely at an individual classroom, departmental, and school-wide level (at school and university) to inform decisions about which approaches to teaching and learning work best. CSSCx is excited to announce the continuation of the Lakeview 5 Year Student Action Research and School Practitioner Inquiry Conference. This year we have made logistical arrangements to expand the number of rooms for the roundtables to insure that we can have and hear ☺ robust conversations. The professional development coordinators at your school are responsible for facilitating the practitioner inquiry conference submission that will be presented from each school. Remember, practitioner inquiry (like action research) follows the cycle of:
The use of data is critical but does not have to rely solely on high stakes or quantitative data.
In our effort to make practitioner inquiry less about forms and more about work, we would just like your PDC from your PDS to meet with the PDS leadership and make sure all understands this work and why it is central to PDS work. As a site-based decision making group, your team will develop a plan for identifying an area of inquiry and a plan for engaging in inquiry. Over the course of the year, it will be important that your entire PDS (teachers, leadership, and 5 year students) begin to understand the role that inquiry plays in the PDS. Once you have identified your practitioner inquiry work for the year, the PDC should email Lisa Barnette at lisa.barnette@mail.wvu.edu a 100 word description of your collaborative practitioner inquiry work. For those PDSs that are steeped in PLC work through district/state initiatives, this practitioner inquiry could easily be related to that initiative.
If you have further questions about the Lakeview Conference or the process of practitioner inquiry, please contact the Benedum Collaborative Office.
